From 1927 to 2017 – 90 years of enjoying the great outdoors. For almost 90 years, Rottefella has been there to help people enjoy the great outdoors and to make skiers faster. For the next 90 years, we plan to do exactly the same, by finding the best materials and innovations available, to make people enjoy nature and staying active, whether it is on skis or by doing other activities. In 1927, the Norwegian mechanical engineer inventor and industrialist Bror With created the first split toe binding. He used his bindings in a ski race were the then Crown Prince Olav was present. The future king took one look at the different looking bindings and asked Bror what on earth he had on his skis. The inventor quickly replied: “Oh, they’re

just a couple of rat traps. I picked up at the hardware store”. (Rottefella is the Norwegian word for rat trap.) The binding proved itself a success and the name “Rottefella” was a reality. Norwegian Broadcasting Corperation together with Norwegian Industrial property office elected Rottefella binding from Bror With as one of the ten most importent norwegian inventions through all times. Numerous innovations and technological advances later, Rottefella is the leading producer of binding systems. At Tour de Ski 2017, athletes on Rottefella bindings won all podium listing in the overall classification.

But there is more to enjoying the great outdoors than a great binding system. A comfortable athlete is a happy athlete, which is why Rottefella is introducing a completely new collection of clothing for outdoors activities, from walking and running to ski touring and training, providing the optimal balance between comfort and perfomance. From our bindings to our clothes, Rottefella is committed to invent great products that make people enjoy nature, whether it is for a walk or a run in the woods or while cross-country skiing. This is our heritage, and this is our future.

Moving your heels down and hips forward, combined with straightened knees and arms closer to the body, gives you several benefits.

A neutral position gives greater power bursts, better balance, and ultimately, a better skiing experience.

Rottefella philosophy – It all starts with the body. At Rottefella, all products are developed with body dynamics in mind. Our development philosophy has always started with the core functions of the body, with bindings designed based on the fact that the body is best at utilizing its full potential when it’s in a neutral position. Our new line of workout apparel takes this philosophy further, by using thermal body mapping as a foundation for the development when in activity.

All body parts have different functions and needs during physical activity. We have studied these factors, and designed a clothing collection based on thermal body mapping. The result is workout apparel that works in synergy with your body for increased comfort and maximum performance. Our bindings are designed with neutral body position in mind. With the foot posi-

tioned as flat as possible - in the shoe and on the ski - the skier’s hips are positioned further forward, increasing balance and strength from the core musculature. All Rottefella products, from bindings, insoles and outsoles to our clothing, utilize the body’s bio dynamics to the full, giving greater power bursts, better comfort and ultimately a much better and more exhilarating skiing experience.

Inventing products for outdoor activities for almost a century. If you watch a film of a skier in the 1930s and compare that with some of the world class athletes competing today, you realize cross-country skiing has come a long way in the last 90 years. Not only has skis, bindings, boots and poles evolved, but clothing and other equipment have also come a long way, following trends as they come and go. The joy of skiing and being outdoors, however, has been and is always there, as a backdrop, regardless of the gear that is used. At Rottefella ID at Klokkarstua, just outside Oslo, we have been a part of the development of cross country skiing through numerous developments, from

better tracks, through the transition from wooden skis to fiberglass, to the introduction of the skating technique in the 1980s. Rottefella engineers have always been a driving force to push skiers to become better and faster, and for people in general to enjoy skiing and being outdoors. Whether it’s Nordic skiing, Telemark or roller skiing, we constantly strive to develop products that optimize the outdoors and skiing experience. In an environmentally conscious era, it is also expected from a producer of outdoor

gear that we consider the environment and deliver sustainable solutions. For this reason, we strive to find and use materials that can be recycled and reused, at the same time as we make products that are durable and do not need to be replaced often. At Rottefella we have been outdoors for 90 years, and have experienced how varying temperatures and conditions influence the body. We learn from our experiences, we adapt to the present, and we try to predict the future, to give all people the best outdoors experience possible.

Rottefella apparel is developed to make the body achieve and maintain the optimal temperature, regardless of activity.

Taking our outdoor heritage one step further. Being outdoors is an important part of Rottefella’s Norwegian heritage. For almost a century, we have challenged nature by inventing and developing technology that has made people enjoy the great outdoors. This experience is crucial when we now develop and launch our own collection of apparel, designed especially for staying comfortably warm while

performing all outdoors activities. The body is an amazing biological machine, optimized to move, and for being outdoors. Whether you ski, hike, climb, run or bike, there are two main things that are important to enjoy your activities and performing at your best level: staying dry and maintaining the right temperature. By utilizing thermal body mapping, we have analyzed how different body parts react differently to

outdoors temperatures and the level of activity. The result has been a clothing collection made exclusively for you to stay dry and maintain the optimal temperature.

Use the intergrated QuickLock or the NIS key to increase your performance. Move the binding forward for better grip or towards the back for better glide.

Move your binding for increased joy of skiing and better performance. The Rottefella Xcelerator bindings have been our most innovative products for several years, with features that have revolutionized cross-country skiing. In 2004, Rottefella introduced the first moveable binding in cross-country skiing. To be able to move the binding on the ski is a feature we continue to develop and improve. With the ability to move the binding forward and towards the back of the ski, the skier can customize the grip and glide to his or her personal style of skiing, and to the conditions. Moving your binding can be done either with an integrated Quick-Lock in the binding, or by using a NIS Key.

On the Rottefella Pro Classic and Rottefella Pro Skate, the Rottefella Quick- Lock enables you to fine-tune the position of the binding on the ski without any tools. Move the binding towards the back for more speed and power in the kick when skating and better glide in classic skiing. Move the binding forward for more control in skating and better grip in classic skiing. On our remaining Xcelerator bindings, and on all our bindings that use the NIS plate, use the NIS Key to move your binding. This can be done in seconds, but can result in a significantly better time at the finish line.

We continue to develop our bindings, and finding new ways for the skier to move the binding more easily. From using a key to simply lifting a lever, the future will bring electronic solutions, and moving your binding will literally be as easy as pushing a button without removing your skis. Rottefella is the first binding producer to make this kind of solution. Moving the binding is the future of cross-country skiing, and will give you a better skiing experience.

“Skin skis are a safe and an efficient choice. You can just keep them ready – you don’t even have to check the weather forecast.” - Lars Amund Toftegaard, the Norwegian Association for the Promotion of Skiing to Aftenposten

Skin skis and Rottefella bindings – the future of cross-country skiing. While waxless skis have been available for several years, skis with an integrated grip skin have increased in popularity over the last few years. Skin skis have truly made a breakthrough among skiers, and are here to stay. Waxing skis is a science. To find the best balance between grip and glide, you need to find wax that is perfect for both air temperature, snow temperature and snow structure. With skin skis, you don’t need to consider all

these factors, and can simply spend more time skiing and less time waxing. Skin skis have, as the name suggests, grippy skins attached to the waxing zone, replacing the need for wax, but still enables the ski to glide forward. As the skins are glued to the ski base, moving the binding becomes more important, in order to find the perfect balance between

grip and glide. By moving the binding forward, you get better grip in classic skiing. Move the binding towards the back of the ski to get more speed and better glide. Moving the binding on the ski changes the weight distribution, which can also change your grip and glide. If you lose weight or wear a backpack for instance, moving the binding is the only way you can make adjustments to the grip and glide on skin skis.

Races like Vasaloppet in Sweden and Marcialonga in Italy gather thousands of skiers every year.

Competing with and against yourself. Wherever there is snow, people ski. And when people ski, they compete. But competing is not just for world cup racers, but also for the thousands of athletes who participate in a number of races across all continents. Most important of all, skiers compete against themselves, improving their ski technique, beating personal records, or using cross-country skiing to reach their fitness goal. From China, throughout Europe, to North America, tens of thousands of skiers have

discovered not just the health benefits of skiing, but also the joy of competing – against others or against themselves. The classic races, like Marcialonga in Italy and Vasaloppet in Sweden are sold out months in advance. At Rottefella, our mission is to make skiers enjoy skiing even more and to make them go faster. Our products have proven successful in a variety of marathon races, with victories at both Vasaloppet and Birkebeineren the last years, amongst others. But

most importantly, thousands of skiers have reached the finish line on Rottefella bindings, reaching their personal goals. One thing is delivering the binding systems to athletes who are the first to cross the finish line. In addition, thousands of skiers race, across the world, on Rottefella bindings every year. Every binding we ship from our factory in Norway is made with these racers in mind.

Whether it’s in snow in the winter or tarmac in the summer, Rottefella’s new roller ski bindings. Our widest and most stable roller ski binding.

Roller skiing – The joy of skiing, all year. Just because winter is ending does not mean you have to stop skiing. More and more people discover the benefits and joy of using roller skis in the off-season, both to maintain and improve their skiing technique and stamina, but also as a low impact and fun training method. The interest for roller skiing has sky-rocketed over the last few years, as more and more people discover the great way this training form is. At Rottefella, we have years of experience with roller skiing. Rottefella roller ski bindings, for both classic skiing and skating, can handle rough surfaces and provide the same feeling and power as the Rottefella bindings for winter.

The health benefits that come with regular and varied training are numerous, and roller skiing is a great way to vary your workout routine. Roller skiing is low-impact on the joints and engages your whole body, giving you a better workout than both running and cycling. It has all the benefits of cross-country skiing on snow, which is well-known for being one of the best aerobic workouts there is. An important change in modern cross-country skiing is the increased use of double poling, and less diagonal technique. Previously, arm strength was perhaps the most important ability in a skier, but in double poling the skier is more effcient if he or she use the major muscle groups and body weight to gain speed. Roller skiing is also an

efficient way to work the core muscles that are so important to be a good cross country skier. Roller skiing is an affordable workout. You can use the same boots and poles as in winter, but you will need to change the spikes on the latter. Rottefella’s new roller ski binding is wider and therefore more stable than our other roller ski bindings. Through new features and striking design, the binding ensures optimal power transmission and a safer roller skiing experience.

We are proud of our technology for faster skiing, developed along with our partners through decades, and successful in numerous competitions. This is our heritage, and this is our vision for the future.

All Rottefella Cross Country Skiing Insoles and Rottefella outsoles are designed based on a neutral position for optimal power transmission.

The Xcelerator Pro Skate binding gives you the optimal transmission of power from skier to ski, and provides great balance and control in every stride.

Rottefella flexors offer the advantage of converting your binding from classic skiing to skating. In addition, you can match your ski preferences by simply using a softer or harder flexor.

The Rottefella NIS plate allows easy mounting. Move your binding to choose between turbo and traction, adjusting the glide and grip.

All Rottefella Cross Country Skiing Insoles and Rottefella outsoles are designed based on a neutral position for optimal power transmission.

The Xcelerator Pro Classic binding gives you the optimal transmission of power from skier to ski, and provides great balance and control in every stride.

The Rottefellla Xcelerator system offers a range of accessories for fine-tuning the skier’s personal style. The unique Rottefella Xcelerator flex system personalizes the flex resistance to the individual’s style and shoe size. Our flexors are available in three different hardnesses for both classic and skating.

Rottefella Xcelerator System – When performance matters. Rottefella Xcelerator has been our top-ofthe-line binding system since 2011, with some of the most innovative solutions in cross-country skiing today. Along with our ski and boots partners, the Xcelerator system has won a majority of world cup, world championship and Olympic medals over the last decades, as well as numerous awards and prizes for being products that set the benchmark and continue to develop the sport of cross-country skiing. Rottefella Xcelerator is the system of choice for the best skiers in the world. By integrating

Rottefella’s philosophy and technology, we have developed the Xcelerator system for speed and precision in skiing. The system provides everything between the skier and the ski: mounting plates, bindings, outsoles and insoles, all produced by Rottefella. Rottefella outsoles, used by all our partners, ensure the safety and functionality in the interface between the boot and the binding. This complete system ensures that the skier assumes a neutral position, which is necessary to catch those last crucial seconds when racing towards the finish line.

Xcelerator bindings are the original racing bindings that can be moved on the ski for increased performance. By moving the binding forward, you get more control when skating and better grip in classic skiing. Move the binding towards the back for more speed and power when skating and better glide in classic skiing. This way, you can adjust the grip and glide of the ski, to suit the conditions or your personal style of skiing.

The unique Rottefella Xcelerator flex system personalizes the flex resistance to the individual’s style and weight. Our flexors are available in three different hardnesses for both classic and skate. Rottefella flexors offer the advantage of optimizing the binding from classic to skate style, as well as easy adjustment to

your preferred ski response by simply snapping in place a softer or harder flexor. All Xcelerator bindings are delivered with a medium flex (black). Switching to a softer flex (light grey) will make it easier to bring the ski forward after the kick. In

particular, people with low weight and smaller feet will benefit from changing to a softer flex. A hard flex (dark grey) will make the ski more responsive, and can be used in terrain where there is a lot of double-poling.

Helping children discover the joy of skiing is the main purpose of Rottefella’s bindings for kids and youth.

Discovering the joy of skiing. From young children taking their first strides on skis, to young, ambitious adults who aim for the podium at world cup events, Rottefella has been making bindings that make children better skiers for almost a century. In an age where children and youth are less active and less outside, cross-country skiing is a great way for children to enjoy fresh air and great nature, while building better balance and a healthier lifestyle.

Rottefella bindings aim to improve the stability of the ski for children, increasing their sense of achievement and strengthening the joy of skiing. Our innovative solutions, like the automatic step-in system and large handles, are especially made for children who are exploring the skiing activity. Meanwhile, for older and more skilled skiers, we use the technology from the bindings that win Olympic gold

medals, and tailor them to the needs of young adults who demand a little more. No matter the age, Rottefella bindings are designed to increase the joy of skiing for all young skiers, regardless of their goals – from reaching the next cabin for a cup of hot chocolate, to beating their best friend in a friendly race across the lake.

Every skier has a personal style, and every telemark skier is even more unique. Now you can personalize your Rottefella binding, using a variety of different color combinations.

Telemark skiing – Old technique, new technologies. Telemark, or “free-heel” skiing, is one of the oldest, if not the oldest, forms of skiing. A Norwegian, Sondre Norheim, who came from the Norwegian county Telemark, made the technique famous in the late 1860s. Today, the trend of ski touring, or “randonee” has once again increased the popularity of this technique. 150 years after Sondre Norheim, the Telemark skiing technique is still gaining popularity among enhusiasts, while the

equipment has gotten highly technical. Rottefella offers a range of Telemark bindings from “old school” bindings with a cable running around the heel, to our own “New Telemark Norm”, or NTN, binding system. NTN users experience immediate energy transfer from boot to edge, and a new spring technology provides an even, smooth and adjustable forward flex. Newly developed easy in/easy out

release mechanisms mean you never have to bend over to put on your Telemark binding again. With the grip of a ski pole, flick the lever open, step in, and push the lever back down. Rottefella has partnered with boot producers Scarpa, Crispi and Scott to design boots that work specially with NTN.
